I am wanting to build an M4 (mostly just for Columbian Dawn) and just checking to see if you guys have any spares lying around, I was looking at some of the G&P receivers on WGC as a starting point and figured I would ask around first. Either that or I bite the bullet and just grab one of the M4 'Ball' from ASGC: asgc.co.nz/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=23_181&products_id=4224I have been told as far as AEG goes, G&P are about as good as it gets for externals, you guys agree?

Heya mate, been busy as so sorry you had to wait for a reply. I have not had much to do with G&P guns, so anything I have to say is going to be second hand. That said I have heard they are good.
Secondly buying a gun off the shelf as opposed to building one will probably save you both time and money. Unless you know people with a LOT of spare parts, However if you don't mind dropping a lot of money on components and working through any compatibility issues you could end up with a kick arse unique personal weapon.

Thanks. I ended up getting a King Arms M4A1, 2nd hand, that had semi-auto issues and had been pulled apart and left as a bucket of bits. I have reassembled and replaced most of the internals with Lonex parts. The issue ended up being a weak/worn cut off lever which is apparently a well known issue with KA. I have rewired from scratch and everything looks and feels good. I am quite happy with the quality of the KA externals, nice correct engraved Colt markings etc. The only real issues I have with it now is the dummy bolt plate is curled at the end where it snaps against the bolt stop. KA have that bolt lock back feature and it obviously ends up being a bit harsh on the bit of sheet metal over time. Fun to build tho. My first real foray into V2, I have built up a V2.5 before so kinda had it sussed straight off considering it was literally just a pile of parts lol! Especially after I have done probably 20 V3 gearboxes (which are much easier if you ask me!)

Yeah drdee , looks like you have a good shooter there.
On the king arms thing, both my m4s are Ka, one had that cutoff leaver issue and the other had the ornamental plate issue. I replaced the lever and pulled out the plate straightend it out and booyah its gravey. Also personally I do find king arms have nice externals, I could not compare them to G&P as I have not had much to do with G&P.
On a side note v3 gearboxes falcon-punch the teeth out of v2.
